Education at South Paws
Our surgical suite has been designed as a world-class teaching facility with high-definition cameras installed in the surgery lights in order to provide a one-of-a-kind learning experience. We also have the capability to transmit live streaming surgical video anywhere in the world for internet-based viewing. This can be used for teaching and can also be used to include specialists from other cities and countries in the care of our patients.
We have one of the only private-practice surgical residencies in Australia and all of our past interns have been placed in highly-competitive residencies internationally.
Lectures
Southpaws hosts regular informative veterinary seminars on a range of topics. Dr. Kuntz, Dr. Rutland and Dr. Simcock are the usual presenters; however other specialists are often invited to speak at lectures. Lectures are held for veterinarians, special interest groups and veterinary students and are fully catered for.
Charles has been lecturing for over 10 years and has quite a reputation for holding informative, engaging and laid back seminars.
Lecture Facilities
Our lectures are held upstairs in the Centre and we are able to seat up to 100 people comfortably. Lectures are projected onto a large wall with our digital projector.
All of the surgical suites at Southpaws have glass to glass walls, enabling visiting veterinarians to watch the surgery live as it is performed. Our main surgery suite is also fitted with a video camera that is mounted into the surgery lights. This video data can then be transferred to our lecture hall upstairs, so that Dr. Kuntz can teach veterinarians new procedures and enable others to watch on interesting cases. This video feed will also be transmitted live to referring vets for the purpose of education.
Articles
At Southpaws, we are actively involved in advancing the Science of Veterinary Medicine and publish regularly in peer reviewed journals, proceedings and newsletters on the new techniques we use at Southpaws.
