Ophthalmology at South Paws
Southpaws is very pleased to announce that our new Ophthalmology service is up and running. This service is lead by Dr Allyson Groth and is fully equipped to examine and manage a wide range of ocular conditions in your dog, cat, exotic or pocket pet.
We will work alongside your primary care veterinarian with the team goal of preserving, restoring or enhancing your pet’s vision and ocular comfort. We understand the important role of vision in your pet’s quality of life, as well as in the bond between you and your pet. A wide range of medical and surgical treatments are available. All procedures and options will be thoroughly discussed with you so that a plan can be tailored for you and your pet’s needs.
The ophthalmology service is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment and is complemented by Southpaws’ on-site Computed Tomography (CT, “cat scan”) machine for imaging of retrobulbar tissues, as well as radiology, ultrasonography and laboratory capabilities.
Ophthalmic procedures offered at Southpaws:
- Phacoemulsification lens removal surgery with artificial lens placement (cataract surgery)
- Corneal laceration repair
- Conjunctival/corneal grafting
- Eyelid conformation correction (entropion/ectropion)
- Prolapsed gland of the third eyelid (“cherry eye”) repair
- Everted third eyelid cartilage correctionParotid duct transposition
- Ocular evisceration and prosthesis placement
- Eye removal (enucleation)
