Dr Liam Donaldson, graduated as a veterinarian from James Cook University in 2013. Following his undergraduate degree, Liam pursued a rotating small animal internship with the team at Queensland Veterinary Specialists. Following two years at Queensland Veterinary Specialists, Liam was accepted into a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Melbourne.

While undertaking his residency, Liam also completed two Masters’ degrees with honours; Master of Veterinary Studies and Master of Veterinary Science. He also published a thesis on inflammation and endothelial perturbation in dogs undergoing laparotomy, and the immunomodulatory effects of lidocaine post-operatively.

Liam sat his Emergency and Critical Care specialist board exams in Washington DC in 2019 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care on his first attempt. He is well published in several journals and textbooks and presents at both national and international veterinary conferences on a regular basis. Liam’s passion lies in mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy and the management and treatment of immune-mediated disease. He also enjoys the thrill of training fellow veterinarians in the art of critical care medicine.

Liam joined the team at Southpaws in mid-2021 and is thrilled to be a part of the team that has the desire and capacity to deliver the best possible outcomes for the pets of Melbourne and abroad.
