EXPLORE OUR MODERN FACILITIES

MOORABIN HOSPITAL

WE UTILISE SOME OF THE MOST ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES

Veterinary Computed Tomography

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT)

Our Canon-Toshiba Lightning Aquilion 16 slice helical CT scanner allows for advanced high-resolution imaging of all dog and cat body structures using either axial or helical imaging technologies. The machine gets used in many human hospitals. Our CT gets used for imaging of spinal lesions, tumours in all parts of the body, brain scans and bone scans, as well as an extensive range of complex and detailed soft tissue and orthopaedic investigations. Scan times are extremely fast to minimise patient anaesthetic time.

COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY

Southpaws computed radiography improves image quality and minimises your pet’s exposure to radiation. Southpaws have a human quality Mobile Xray Unit and a Kodak Point-of-Care CR 140 digital Xray system, which enables us to capture high-quality Xray images of any body part. Our technology ensures that digital images can be enhanced, enlarged, duplicated and transferred via file sharing. We often take Xrays on the floor to improve patient comfort and reduce the need for unnecessary sedation.

Vet Xray Fluoroscopy

XRAY FLUOROSCOPY

Southpaws use a GE Brivo Xray Fluoroscopy unit to take moving picture digital Xrays during surgical procedures. With Xray Fluoroscopy the surgeon can create Xray videos of moving body parts before, during or after surgery. Southpaws specialist surgeons move patients limbs during surgery to observe the correct movement and accurate placement of surgical devices to optimise the success of the operation.

LABORATORY

We believe that state-of-the-art equipment is required to provide the best care possible to our patients. Southpaws have a full in-house IDEXX laboratory system, which includes the Lasercyte®, VetStat®, VetTest®, VetLab® station and StatSpin®. Having a sophisticated laboratory on-site means faster results and treatment for your pet. Our fully integrated system does haematology, biochemistry, electrolyte and blood gas evaluations rapidly on-site, and can test for infectious diseases.

Our external histopathology is performed by Australian Specialized Animal Pathology (ASAP) or IDEXX, who provide both an outstanding and rapid service.
